getting started – the right approach for you

The right approach to wellness is different for each person, and our offerings reflect that. Take a look at the variety of classes and services below to get an idea of the choices available to you. We'd be happy to talk with you about your specific needs, so feel free to contact us with questions. Look at our Class Schedule for days, times and detailed descriptions.

yoga

Yoga is an ancient system of focused movement and breathing designed to calm the mind and tone the body. Wherever you are in your life and in your wellness goals, there’s a style of yoga suited for you.

pilates

Pilates was developed as a way of acheiving whole-body health naturally, through a series of specific exercises. Our Pilates mat classes will strengthen your core and energize your entire body. All our Pilates classes are taught by the expert team from Bodylogic Pilates so you know you're getting the best instruction available.

meditation

Sometimes we need to be reminded how to simply BE. Cultivate peace, relaxation, and well-being as you experience how mindfulness meditation practices can calm the body and bring to light your true nature of wisdom and kindness.

qi gong

Qi gong teaches you to integrate physical movement, breathing and mindfulness. The gentle, rhythmic practice of qi gong will help reduce stress, build stamina, increase vitality, and improve your immune system.

tai chi

Tai chi is a series of flowing movements performed in slow motion to increase balance, flexibility, proper alignment of the body and a peaceful state of mind.

massage

Massage treatments can range from relaxing and refreshing to truly therapeutic. Working into the tissues of the body eliminates toxins, realigns the flow of energy and releases tension in nerves and muscles. Craniosacral treatments help you get to the root of the tension in order to release it by uniting your personal energy with a much larger, universal flow.

kettlebells

Kettlebells are compact hand-held weights used to build cardiovascular endurance, tone the core and strengthen the back. There's an emphasis on alignment and on working at your own individual level of fitness as you progress toward more challenging exercises. (back to top)

what to expect, what to bring (FAQ’s)

Most people don't know what to expect in their first class. This is normal. The following pointers may answer some of your questions about what to expect and what to bring when you come to the Yoga Garden. If we’ve missed anything you’re curious about, feel free to call or email with questions. We’d love to talk to you!

will everyone be better than I am?

You’ll be fine. We welcome students of all ages and abilities, so you’ll find a wide range of people in our classes, each working at their own level. We all start somewhere, and you’re welcome at the Yoga Garden no matter what your experience level is.

what if I can’t do everything the teacher asks us to do?

Learning is a process. We learn best by doing, and our classes are designed to introduce you to new things over time. The teacher is a guide, but the student learns what she’s ready to learn when she’s ready to learn it. Our teachers will offer variations for many postures so everyone can experience them at an appropriate level.

what should I bring?

The Yoga Garden offers free mats and other supplies for yoga and Pilates. We also have supplies for sale. If you’ve already got your own equipment, feel free to bring it. Many students bring a water bottle and a towel.

what should I wear?

Wear clothing that allows a full range of motion. That could be form-fitting athletic clothes or loose-fitting sweats and a t-shirt. Whatever works for you.

should I eat before class?

We recommend not eating a heavy meal within two hours before class. It's also a good idea to drink plenty of water earlier in the day so your body is well hydrated during class.

when should I get there?

Classes start promptly at their scheduled time so please arrive ten to fifteen minutes early to check in and get settled. If you arrive late, please wait outside the practice room until the teacher motions you to come in. (back to top)
