Many of our classes are organized into sessions, making it easier for you to fit a series of classes into your schedule for a specified time. Our sign-up classes generally last for four, eight or twelve weeks. Check the Class Schedule for days and times. You can even sign up right online! Feel free to contact us with any questions — we'd love to talk with you!

yoga 101 • Mark Nelson

Have you heard all the good things yoga can do for you, but just don't know where to start? Have you ever wanted to try a yoga class, but didn't want to stand out? Now's your chance to learn the basics side by side with other beginners!

In this easy, four-week program you'll learn: Basic yoga postures so you can follow along in any of the open classes at the Yoga Garden: Breathing techniques to calm the mind and soothe the senses: Variations on the basic yoga postures so you can adapt the practice to your own needs. You'll come out of the classes feeling relaxed and ready to make yoga a part of your healthy lifestyle! And when you're done, we'll work with you one-on-one to select teachers and classes at the Yoga Garden who are a good match for your needs and abilities. (back to top)

Have you ever wondered why Pilates is such a great workout? How does it build core strength so quickly? Find out in this series of classes designed just for beginners!

In this easy, four-week program taught by the fitness professionals from Bodylogic Pilates, youΉll learn basic techniques so your Pilates practice will be safe and effective for years to come. You'll develop deep core strength for a healthy spine and improved posture. You'll begin to build a powerful, well-defined body.

And since everyone in the class is a beginner, youΉll be able to learn at your own pace. At the end of the session, youΉll have a better understanding of your body and how to strengthen it, and youΉll be prepared to attend any of the on-going Pilates mat classes at the Yoga Garden. (back to top)

A certified Polarity Therapist since 1993 and a mindfulness practitioner since 1985, Cheryl completed the Spiritual Lifestyle Training at Kripalu. yoga for people living with cancer • Michelle Stortz

This eight-week course adapts traditional Yoga poses and movements to meet individual needs for those living with cancer including anyone in active treatment. Recent research suggests Yoga may decrease symptoms such as fatigue, pain, insomnia, and negative mood and increase energy level, ability to relax and face stressful situations during cancer treatment.

Each class in the series will include learning and practicing postures and gentle movements, breathing and relaxation techniques, as well as imagery and meditation - all tailored to individual participant needs. We will also discuss Yoga philosophy and the rationales for using adaptive Yoga practices to enhance physical and emotional wellness during the cancer journey.

Michelle Stortz, MFA, CMT, CYT has been a Yoga teacher for the last six years, a massage therapist for ten years and a student/practitioner of contemporary dance and somatic studies for over twenty years. Her dedication to the healing arts has meant cultivating an integrated life as a movement artist, a yoga practitioner & teacher and a bodyworker. She has an MFA in Choreography from Ohio State University, a teaching certification in Vinyasa Yoga from Studio B in Northern Liberties, PA and massage certification from the San Francisco School of Massage. In 2008 she began applying Yoga therapy toward her husband's battle with cancer and now works to support others who are in cancer treatment. She completed her first level of a specialized training ­in Jnani Chapman, RN's, Yoga Therapy for People with Cancer and Chronic Illness, at the Integral Yoga Academy in Virginia. (back to top)
